Exploring the World of FlipTop Battles in the Philippines

In the heart of the Philippines, where the streets are alive with the rhythm of life, there exists a subculture that thrives on wit, wordplay, and the sheer power of the spoken word. This is the world of FlipTop Battle League, the most prominent and influential rap battle league in the country. Since its inception in 2010, FlipTop has become a cultural phenomenon, showcasing the raw talent and creativity of Filipino emcees who engage in lyrical combat, leaving audiences in awe and their opponents in shambles.

The Birth of Fliptop: Revolution in Filipino Hip-Hop

FlipTop was founded by Alaric Riam Yuson, popularly known as Anygma, a visionary who sought to elevate the Filipino hip-hop scene. Inspired by international rap battle leagues like Grind Time and King of the Dot, Anygma created a platform where Filipino artists could express themselves freely, using their native languages and dialects to craft intricate verses that resonate with the masses.

The first FlipTop event, held in February 2010, was a modest gathering of underground emcees. Little did anyone know that this would spark a revolution in Filipino hip-hop, turning FlipTop into a cultural juggernaut that would dominate the local music scene.

The Anatomy of a FlipTop Battle

Two emcees face off in a three-round battle, each round lasting three minutes. The goal? To outwit, outrap, and outshine your opponent using clever wordplay, punchlines, and metaphors.

The battles are judged based on several criteria:

  • Delivery: The emcee's performance, including flow, timing, and stage presence.

  • Impact: The crowd's reaction and the overall impression left by the performance.

What sets FlipTop apart is its authenticity. Emcees often incorporate Filipino culture, current events, and personal experiences into their verses, making each battle a reflection of the society they live in.

Microsoft Office365

Let's be honest about it. Apple office document apps sucks. Although, I am using Macbook 12-inch model as my personal laptop, I hate their office apps not because they are buggy or not user-friendly; but because of their limited adoption. Few people are using it (none of my friends and colleague uses it). I cannot use it in my work because people will curse me. There is only one instance where I used it, i.e. during our hackaton event. That's it.  As expected, like any office worker; I am a regular user of Microsoft Office, i.e. word, powerpoint and excel. I bought office365 since it is cheaper and you always get the latest version. I am using it for 2 years now and my license will end August of this year (August 08, 2018 to be exact). I bought my last 2 licenses from lazada.com.ph for less than 2,000 pesos. As I don't want to lose my access to onedrive.com and office apps; I bought a new 1 year license from lazada.com.ph for 1,499 pesos inclusive of the shippi...
